Nevertheless, I am quite excited and self-confident though it was my job interview experience. I have taken my first job interview and almost recruited the participants that I have wanted so eagerly. It is indeed true that I was not fully prepared when the interview occurred however there are some key abilities that support me to continue the interview session quite professionally. These are the following interviewing capabilities that I possess and helped me to stay professional during that time.

Gibbs' Reflective Cycle

Gibbs Reflective Cycle is a self-reflection and management instrument that assist people to deliberate clearly and methodically about the diverse experiences they have gone through in terms of a specific action or similar circumstances and draw conclusions (Adeani, Febriani and Syafryadin, 2020). This particular reflective cycle will help me to share and measure my experience in an effective manner.


This is the first stage of Gibb's reflective cycle in which there will be a brief description of the incident. The ultimate aim of this particular stage is to put forward simple just relevant information which can be described as a factual description (Adeani, Febriani and Syafryadin, 2020). In terms of that, I am going to describe a brief description of the incident which I have experienced during the time of taking my first interview and others. While operating in the IT sector, the CEO and other business professionals have decided to recruit new participants for marketing. According to their criteria, the newly recruited participants have to be efficient in marketing and require to know extensive market information. Basically, we are aiming to get experienced and proficient candidates who will do this job with much interest. Regarding this fact, they have selected 3 HR professionals including me to accomplish the interview as an effective manager.

In terms of that, I have to be proficient and capable of asking innovative questions to get the interview done quite in a professional manner. In order to accomplish the interview in a professional manner, I have to learn about some specific skills that helped me expansively to continue the session in an effective manner. Through acquiring and developing my interviewing and negotiation skills I have been able to improve my capabilities as an effective business professional. It has been observed that after gaining these specific skills I have been competent to ask several questions and measure what kind of employees will be good for our company. It is indeed necessary for the interviewer to be an expert along with encompassing massive market knowledge unless it will be problematic for him to get the compulsory participant. Also, I have encountered major constraints during the time of taking the interview however mitigating these behaviour have supported me extensively to be prepared for my upcoming interview.


The second stage of Gibb's reflective cycle is considered exceedingly beneficial for demonstrating thoughts and perceptions during the time of accomplishing the task. This phase is indeed necessary for measuring the incident as well as defining the experiences in an effective manner (Sekarwinahyu et al., 2019). During the time taking my first job interview I have faced major problems with asking questions as well as some misunderstandings too. In terms of that enquiring in an effective manner as well as measuring the capabilities of the candidates is indeed difficult for me. Though, I have managed to conduct the interview in a skillful manner along with having some difficulties. Before the interview took place, I was feeling quite panicky although I have acknowledged that I can do this in a skillful manner. In fact, the foremost problem that has occurred at that time is to select the appropriate participants for our company. As I was also an imperative part of the interview session, it was my responsibility to think accordingly about their behaviour and the way they have presented themselves in the session. It was quite challenging for me to pick among the participants having incomparable capabilities but I have succeeded in selecting the appropriate candidate for marketing.


The evaluation step is quite significant in this reflective cycle to evaluate the positive and negative experiences about the session meritoriously (Ezezika and Johnston, 2022). Conducting the interview has benefited me to understand the way of taking the interview and negotiating with the candidates to comprehend their perspectives about the job. Regarding this fact, I have also thought about enhancing my interviewing skills after acknowledging my key weaknesses. It has been observed that due to not having enough experience I have encountered many perplexing situations which is quite bad for maintaining a presumed behaviour for me as well as for my company too. Due to this reason, I have discontinued asking questions to the interviewee as I was having some challenging situations and was getting disorganised. My other colleagues have supported me at that time. After analysing the situation, it can be said that I have gained major experience after knowing my major faintness, and also having some interviewing capabilities have facilitated me to continue the interview session in quite an effective manner.


After the conduction of the interview, I have realised that there are some skills that have helped me to continue the session quite effectively and these are the following skills.

Confidence is considered the foremost aspect which might help an individual to understand the flow of the interview session in an effective manner (Cranston, 2019). It basically refers to believing in yourself, which I did and it benefits me to demonstrate the level of interest towards the participant. This particular skill supports me to ask effective questions quite meritoriously as well as maintain calm and quiet behaviour during the time of interviewing session. After the interview was over, I have realised that this particular skill has helped me to be confident and assist me to demonstrate my own belief in an extensive manner.

Perseverance is indeed true that companies always tend to hire people having the ability to stay calm during the time confronting a situation. I have been able to deliver my questions and demonstrate my point of view in a brief and intellectual manner. Thus, it is indeed necessary for an interviewer to validate his point of view evidently and concisely. Through the illustration of an evident statement and a positive reply, I have been able to accomplish the interview session quite effectively.

Showing interestto the interviewee that you are significantly interested in their dedication, is also a part of the interviewing kill. The employers will recruit only the candidate who will be interested in their company and will be loyal to the organisation (Torres et al., 2021). Therefore, it is indeed imperative to demonstrate your interest in the interviewee. Thus, I have been benefitted to implement this particular skill during the interview session and accomplish the interview in a skillful manner.

Persuasion is the key to get success during the time of accomplishing any interview session. The persuasion skill basically refers to convincing the interviewee to come to an understanding within your point of view as well as following a particular topic or a course of action (Wesner and Smith, 2019). This particular negotiation skill has helped me to persuade the interviewee about the way I believe and my perception and how it connects me within the organisation. It will benefit me to portray a positive character in front of the candidate to demonstrate an interest in working with them and why they will select this organisation as a suitable option for them.

Co-operation fundamentally indicates mutual agreement by both parties in an interview session. It is indeed measured as an imperative aspect of the negotiation skill that each and every candidate needs to possess before accomplishing any interview (Wesner and Smith, 2019). I have experienced that the demonstration of mutual concentration has occurred and we both agreed on the same topic. This particular negotiation skill has assisted me to show my immense interest in why they should join this company for the marketing position. Moreover, I have recognised that I have been competent to meet both our required criteria, and by convincing through my negotiation skill I have been able to select them. However, I have also experienced some problematic circumstances for not having enough negotiation skills and that has prevented me to undertake a successful negotiation during the time of the interview session. Therefore, it is indeed necessary to have planning skills as it is indeed imperative for the applicant to follow a step-by-step process as well as maintain a flow during the time of interacting with the interviewee.

It has been observed that without having this capability I have undergone pressure and that impact on lowering my self-confidence level. Although having the negotiations skills have been considered responsible for tackling and managing each and every challenging situation without facing major confronts. Moreover, I can gain more experience and might be able to develop my proficiencies as well as progression in my future professional career quite effectively.

The sixth and final step of the Gibbs Reflective Cycle basically refers to an Actions plan and here people define the way they will encounter similar circumstances in the future and how to do superior next time (Dhaliwal, Singh and Singh, 2018). In terms of the action plan, I have taken a major initiative to tackle the future problems which might come for my future development. Regarding this fact, the application of SMART objectives might assist me to deal with future problems in an effective manner. in terms of that, first, I have focused on a specific problem and then analysing it to understand its negative impact on my career. Then, it will be time for measuring its effectiveness and how it can impact my learning process. After that, I have taken a major initiative to tackle the problem as well as improve my skills. After doing this, I have measured the significance of the step that I have implemented for overcoming the issue. Therefore, measuring time for accomplishing the objectives has been done to effectively continue this.
