Introduction

Placement in the hospitality sector is beneficial as it offers opportunity in relation to developing knowledge and enhancing the experience as well. Apart from this, this reflective learning log will be based on sharing my personal experience as supervisory role in the revenue management department within Holiday Inn at Peterborough West Assignment help In Uk. Revenue management is considered as significant department in hotels and its key role includes managing the whole team, controlling the room rates, conducting weekly meetings with the staff in order to indentify solutions and gaps (Santos et al 2021). Another role of revenue department is to allocate the budget and compare the same from past years to determine the gaps. Revenue managers are accountable to upload the reports every day regarding what was sold (Sharma et al, 2022). Apart from this, the log will highlight my experience, development of skills and gaining the knowledge through ERA (Experience, reflection and action) model. Being a student my placement learning objectives within hotel was

Section 1: Reflection on experience and personal development

My overall experience was good as a manager within revenue management department because it helped me in enhancing my skills and gaining the knowledge about the various aspects. Before placing in Holiday inn, I worked in same industry so my overall experience assisted me in giving the better performance. My previous industry experience has made significant contribution in handling the roles and responsibilities as a supervisor within the revenue management department in an effective and successful way. Being a supervisor in the revenue department of Holiday Inn, my overall experience was good because I have developed the wide range of skills such as teamwork, communication, task management etc as well as gaining technical knowledge which contributed in meeting the guests service standards. From these skills manager is able to perform wide range of roles and mitigating the challenges of customers and staff (Vuylsteke, 2022).

Being a revenue supervisor of Holiday Inn, with the help of effective communication I was able to articulate the pricing strategies of rooms; foods etc., and negotiate the contracts of conferences & events such as weddings, business meetings as well as collaborate with the marketing and sales teams to make cohesive efforts. On the other hand, developing the teamwork skill was also beneficial for supervisor in the revenue management department (Mobolade and Akinade, 2021). With the help of this skill, I was easily collaborating with the stakeholders and teams to communicate complicated insights and data in an effective manner. This skill was significantly contributed in generating the revenue of Holiday inn because I ensured alignment and promotes the strong partnership. Apart from this, work-based skills also positively impacted my personal development because it helped me in strengthening the strong relationships with the teams and others. Placing as a manager in the revenue department of Holiday Inn was beneficial for me because it helped me in developing technical knowledge that seems essential to follow in order to meet the standards of guest service. On the other hand, my personal and vocational development has an immersive contribution to the success of the hotel and guests experience. Development of these skills and technical knowledge was improved my overall academic journey and builds my career professionally in the hospitality sector.

Section 2: Critical analysis of work-based skills and technical knowledge

My experience as supervisor in revenue management department has improved my understanding in various areas such as teamwork, task management, communication, guest service, personal skills etc. In every organization, effective communication is crucial to exchange the information and providing services to the customers (Hoffman and Tadelis, 2021). Being a supervisor in Holiday Inn all the activities proved beneficial for me because it helped me in developing my communication skill. Without having an effective communication skill I was not able to perform all the tasks of revenue department effectively and efficiently. For example, with the help of communication skill I was competent to streamline the revenue operations and drive the growth as well as development which positively impact the overall success. Apart from this, my overall experience as supervisor in revenue management department was good because I have developed the teamwork skill. Team work is considered as one of the critical skill and crucial for the hotel’s supervision in order to manage its overall operation & administration (Alrawadieh, Alrawadieh and Cetin, 2021). For example: Referring teamwork skill, I was able to simplify the complex data, aligning departments and influencing effective decisions. Through teamwork skill, I was also able develop strategies such as changing rates, rate of corporate events, discounts etc., to boost the revenue. Being a supervisor, through teamwork skill I was competent to collaborate with the other departments such as marketing, sales and operations in order to make sure the unified efforts towards the goals of revenue. During my placement I have also developed the delegation skill about how to allocate the roles and responsibilities to the team members in an effective way.

On the other hand, my overall experience as a supervisor in revenue management department within Holiday Inn was good because it helped me in enhancing my area of task management. With the help of task management skill supervisor is become competent to handle and monitor all the tasks in a proper and effective manner which contributes in generating the higher revenue (Mainga et al, 2022). For example: Through this skill I was competent to manage all the tasks such as setting pricing strategies, managing conferences and events etc., in an effective manner. Along with this, my academic journey, experience of placement and previous industry significantly influenced the growth and development in above-mentioned areas. From my academic journey I learned about various skills which are needed for the revenue supervisor of hotels to manage all the tasks effectively and efficiently.

Section 3: Reflection on organizational issue

Being a revenue manager in the chosen department my overall experience was good but I also encountered the issue related to the teamwork. This issue adversely impacted my experience and overall operations within the revenue management department of Holiday Inn. Due to this issue, I was not able to collaborate with the teams and stakeholders to communicate about the various strategies such as price, advertisement. Due to the lack of my teamwork with others, I was not able to set the prices of rooms and manage other tasks properly. To mitigate the challenge of teamwork, chosen hotel will need to encourage clear and frequent communication, conduct recognition programs and adopt Tuckman model (Zirar et al, 2023). To improve and promote teamwork, adoption of this model will be useful because it helps in easier tracking of progress through stages such as forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning (Tuckman model, 2025). Encouraging the open and frequent communication will be beneficial for Hotel to mitigate the challenge of teamwork because it helps in members to share their perspectives and suggestions which helps revenue manager to make informed and potential decisions (Wilson, Joiner and Abbasi, 2021).

Apart from this, Holiday Inn will need to conduct recognition program for collaboration of teams with the revenue managers. Form this, team members will feel encourage to participating in the decision-making process to make effective decisions.

 In the end of personal reflective log, it has been concluded that my overall experience was good as a revenue manager in Holiday Inn because I developed various work-based skills and gained technical knowledge. I build my teamwork, task management and communication skills as well as gained technical knowledge that helped me to meet the guest service standards. On the other hand, during my placement I also faced issue of teamwork that will need to overcome by adopting Tuckman model and encourage open communication. Apart from this, these insights will help me in informing about the future professional practice within the hospitality sector from which I able to perform all the tasks effectively.
