Introduction: Gender and Sexuality in Society

In the current competitive environment, gender and sex a major issues that prevail within society. This is a major issue that the people within the society are facing and ultimately the overall working of the society is not good. Also, sexuality and gender many times treated as a similar concept but it has a wide range of differences between concepts. Gender is defined as a socially constructed concept through which people define their gender identity which could include the person being a male or female. On the other hand, sexuality is referred to as a concept which includes the fact that what a person is attracted to is an orientation. This can include person becoming a bisexual or heterosexual or any other kind of sexual orientation. With the everyday experience, it is clear that gender-based issues are many which are prevailing within the society. It is due to the reason that based on gender there are many different types of issues and discrimination taking place and it affects the working of the person and status in the society. In previous times, major gender discrimination has taken place and in the current working environment as well discrimination exists. This is not good within society as when high discrimination is present then it impacts the working of the society well. The mission of the current essay is to analyse the different theoretical perspectives along with the three different everyday experiences, which can be supported by assignment writing help if required.

Main Body

For society to work efficiently it is clear that effective working is planned and assured so that working is improved well. It is due to the reason that when the working of the society will be planned well then automatically it will be improving the working well. The sociology of gender states the fact that how society is thinking or influencing the working of the society. In previous times, gender discrimination was very high and as a result of this overall work is affected. Based on gender and sexuality many discrimination and wrong working patterns are followed within society and the corporate culture as well (Cannon, 2020). Moreover, in the fields of education, healthcare and many different industries and working, the effective type of discrimination takes place based on gender. The everyday experiences include three different types of news article which outlines and states that gender discrimination among people is much higher in the UK. For example, one of the articles was related to the violence against women and girls and this highlighted that between 2018 and 2023, the crime against girls and women has increased by 37 % which is very high. Within England and Wales, approximately 1 million crimes were recorded against women and girls (Violence against women and girls in the UK: A ‘national emergency’, 2024). Also, domestic abuse is the most common type of issue which is being recorded among the cases. Along with this, there are many different cases relating to physical abuse and many other different cases and this can lead to the effective active working of the females within the society (Kelly et al, 2021). With the help of another experience, it was seen that the gender pay gap is very high within the UK. This is because of the reason that there is high gender discrimination and as a result of this the overall development of females is impacted. Within the UK there is a high disparity in the pay given to a female worker as compared to the male. For, the past 29 years people have been working on trying to reduce the pay gap among employees based on gender (UK’s gender pay gap will take decades to close at the current rate, 2024). But till now the gap has reduced little but not has completely ended. This simply means that even the people are working to remove the disparity in pay still there is a huge difference in the employment status and pay given to females in comparison to males. Along with this, the third experience includes the fact that sexism is increasing in school and this creates a huge impact on the learning and mindset of the students. The children have high access to the internet and this is majorly used in the wrong way resulting in an increase in sexism among children. Few‐Demo and Allen, (2020) also support that gender and sexuality are not provided with actual means and that gender inequality is increasing. This is not at all good for the country as the current societal working and mindset of the people state that females are less competent as compared to males. But in actuality, the females are not provided with a better working environment.

With the situation of gender and sexuality, different perspectives are attached and the two most common that will be discussed here include feminism and intersectionality. Feminism is a theory or concept which states that all genders must be provided with equal rights and opportunities so that every person can live with dignity and respect. This theory majorly focuses on providing respect to females and their knowledge and strength. This theory of feminism states that the danger stratification must be reduced and also the sexual or physical violence must be reduced so that the status of women can be increased within society (Collins et al, 2021). Along with this, another theoretical perspective included in the current study is intersectionality. This intersectionality is a type of sociological perspective which assists in understanding the interconnectedness between the different categories including gender, race, sexuality and many other different types of basis. For example, disabled women, can face discrimination based on gender and sometimes also because she is disabled. Hence, the intersectionality theory assists in understanding the way how different people tend to experience and shape their thinking based on the different types of disadvantages or the oppression they are facing. Hence, with the help of the intersectionality theory, people tend to understand the causes or the reason for discrimination and why it exists (Wyatt, Johnson and Zaidi, 2022). Moreover, intersectionality helps in identifying the social relation present among the multiple types of discrimination which affect the working of the society. For example, in case a Romanian woman is working in the UK then she can face different types of discrimination which may involve first being a woman and other discrimination based on race that she belongs to Romania. Thus, intersectionality may also lead to an increase in gender and sexuality issues. Thus, as a result of this, overall work is impacted and society is not working efficiently (Ruiz et al, 2021). For example, in the case of the gender pay gap issue, compliance with the feminism theory can be done and accordingly, the countries and companies can try to reduce the gender pay gap. It is the reason that when feminism is applied then in such a case, the female employees will be provided with equality and might be possible that the payment structure is improved. On the other hand, the theory of intersectionality can also be applied in this context and ultimately a better solution can be applied. With the help of the intersectionality theory, the multiple causes of discrimination will be highlighted and accordingly better solutions can be provided to solve the issue well. For example, according to experience 1 of female discrimination as well the theory of feminism and intersectionality can be applied. The reason underlying the fact is that with the help of this theory, the working status of females can be increased and better development opportunities can be provided to them (Esposito, 2024). By complying with the feminism theory it is seen that the overall work will be improved and applied in a better manner. For instance, if the position of females in the workplace is not good then the management of the company must comply with the theory of feminism and as a result of this, the working position might be improved. Thus, as a result of this, the state of women working in the corporate sector gets better and ultimately the overall efficiency can be improved. Moreover, with the application of the theory of intersectionality, better equality can be promoted. This will assist the company in improving the overall efficiency of the companies and ultimately better results will be gained. Further, when the effective type of theories is based then a better and more appropriate type of working will be employed.

On the other hand, Brassel et al, (2020) also argued that when effective type of theories are implemented then it might also result in some negative effects. The reason underlying the fact is that when the effective type of the theory is applied then it might be possible that the overall work will be hampered. The male employees of the company may feel bad as they are not provided with better services and ultimately it will affect the overall efficiency of the company (Mallipeddi and VanDaalen, 2022). Moreover, when too much preference is given to female employees then it might result in the development of the feeling of jealousy among the males and resultantly they tend to start abusing the females. Also, this can create a negative impact on the working of the company and ultimately the working is hampered. Similarly in societal development and upliftment as well, compliance with these theories is assistive but it may cause negative effects on working as well. Thus, as a result of this, the overall working is affected and issues are created in the societal development as well. Further, the studies highlighted that focusing on intersectionality assists the company or the country in finding out the overall working and ultimately better working can be ensured. Further, Bowleg et al, (2023) also stated that it is necessary for the government and regulatory bodies as well that they must effectively try to manage and improve the working well so that the overall development of the society as a whole takes place. In case, intersectionality is failed then it will impact the overall work and ultimately the efficiency will be hampered. Also, it is the responsibility of the regulatory authorities they effectively try to make appropriate rules so that the overall development can be planned and in case any discrimination takes place with the societal working then it will be improving the working well. Moreover, people will have fear in mind that in case they will be doing any wrong activity and discriminating then it will be affecting the overall efficiency of the society and its principles to a great extent.

Further another experience which included sexism as the major issue, was seen when the effective type of theories need to be applied so that this issue can be resolved better. Moreover, it is necessary as the issue of sexuality is not good and ultimately it will affect the overall working of the company to a great extent (Christoffersen and Emejulu, 2023). With the news experience, it was clear that the boys were watching violent and aggressive pornography which completely changed the view of women for a person (Rise in school sexism down to phones, says the union, 2024). The access to such bad and negative content is not good as with the help of this the mindset of the people changes. Also, when more people are complying with this wrong content then it will create a negative impact on the working of the society. When one person thinks of a particular aspect then automatically the mind of other people also starts going like that only. Thus, as a result of this, it is necessary for people they must not to make use of the concept which impacts that mindset of the person to a great extent. In case the current working pattern will be promoted and followed by other people then it will be affecting the working capability to a great extent (Lewis, 2023). Moreover, negative working will be promoted and as a result of this, the overall efficiency will be affected. Also, for this, the government or the regulatory authority need to work efficiently so that the overall development can take place. When the theory of feminism and intersectionality is applied and followed by the government and other regulatory bodies then it will increase the overall working capability (Galpin, 2022). Thus, as a result of this, the efficiency of society and societal working will be improved better. Moreover, when the common policies and practices are set then it will improve the overall working and ultimately the mindset of the people. Also, when overall effective regulations are made and implemented then it will foster the working of the country and society well. Within the community, it is the responsibility of the regulatory authorities they effectively try to manage and maintain a better working and ultimately effective type of environment. When the environment is created well then it will eventually improve the overall capability. Thus, as a result of this, the overall efficiency needs to be improved and gender and sexuality need to be maintained well. Cannon and Chu, (2021) state that when the theories of feminism and intersectionality are applied then it will assist in reducing the gender pay gap, issues of sexism and the violence taking place with females. On a contradictory note, Kelly‐Brown et al, (2022) argued that when these theories are not applied to working well then it will impact the overall work to a great extent. Furthermore, when the effective type of the services will be provided to the people then it will be assisting the people in the society to manage and develop the working and mindset appropriately. Moreover, Agénor, (2020) also supports that for better working in society, it is necessary that gender and sexuality need to be reduced so that discrimination-free work is done. When discrimination will not be present then better work will be provided and all the people will be in a better position to work and improve the working efficiency.

Conclusion

At last, it is concluded that gender and sexuality are the major issues society is facing not today but for many years. Gender discrimination is increasing with time and now in the modern world gender discrimination is reducing a little. This is only possible the reason that when effective theories are applied then it will improve the overall efficiency and gender discrimination will be reduced. The application of the theory of feminism and intersectionality is assistive to manage the working and promote the gender equality well. This is necessary as when these theories are promoted well then automatically the overall efficiency is improved. This is good for the country as with the help of this the overall working will be improved and ultimately the working of society will be more structured. When the working of society is guided by theories like feminism or intersectionality then it will foster the overall working and ultimately the upliftment of the society will take place. With the three experiences that are violence against women, gender pay gap and sexism in education it is clear that all these are negatively affecting the working of the society greatly. But when compliance with the effective type of the theories like feminism which treats women equally and intersectionality which assists in finding the causes of any issue is applied then the overall working is improved for the whole society.
