While the different studies have only emphasised the impact of simulation-based training in education, the current study will evaluate the impacts of simulation-based training on the learning of undergraduate medical students. The research study will fill the gap by analysing the effects of SBT on undergraduate medical student learning.
2.6 Conclusion
To sum up, it is evaluated that SBT provides a real experience to learners regarding the subject matter. In the healthcare sector, VR, AR, manikins, role play, and gamified simulation training increase the knowledge of the students and enhance skills for performing job roles efficiently. Further, the study outlined the influence of SBT on learning of the medical students as it improves their decision-making, confidence, knowledge retention and problem-solving skills. It enables the students to face challenges in the real world while using knowledge gained from simulation training.
The research method is stated as a way or method with the help of which the data is collected, analysed and evaluated to draw some meaning from it. For the study to be successful researcher is required to select the best methodology so that the thesis work can be accomplished (Pandey and Pandey, 2021). On the other side, positivism is the one which includes an emphasis on the scientific methods and quantifying the output (Mahrlamova and Chabanovych, 2021). Secondary and primary are the sources through which the data is collected for effective working. The former is a type of data collection source which relies on collecting first-hand information which has not been utilised in any other study. On the other side, the latter includes using the existing sources from different books, journals, articles and many other different types of existing data relating to the research topic (Habu and Henderson, 2023). To evaluate the effects of the simulation-based training on the learning capability of undergraduate medical students, compliance with a blend of primary and secondary data sources will be used. For the primary data, the survey is conducted with 30 undergraduate medical students and it will be supported by secondary sources. This secondary source will include taking material and information from existing books, journals, articles and many other different types of published data. Further, compliance with the combination of the data is assistive as it helps the researcher in collecting a wide range of data and this in turn helps in successfully attaining the objectives of the study. Moreover, another benefit to the researcher is that this combination provides more reliable and authentic information which can be used effectively in managing and proving the objectives correct.
For the research, the scholar cannot collect the data from the whole population as it comprises a large number of people. Hence, the researcher must select some samples and collect the data from them (Prieto, Sánchez and García, 2023). It is necessary to collect the data effectively so that the relevant data is collected and objectives are proven correct. In the current study, to assess the impact of simulation-based training methods on the learning and efficiency of medical students, compliance with the random sampling method is made (Dzwigol, 2022). The random sampling method includes a focus on selecting the sample on a random basis and due to this, every person in the population has an equitable chance of getting selected for data (Gong et al, 2021). Based on the random sampling method, 30 undergraduate medical students from Brighton & Sussex Medical School have been selected. The questionnaire will be shared with the participants with the help of the emails and the respondents also have to fill out the questionnaire and share it via email so that the scholar can evaluate the responses provided by the participants.
To make the study successful it is mandatory for the scholars they effectively evaluate and analyse the data so that better work can be managed. After the collection of the data, the collected data must be analysed and evaluated well (Mahrlamova and Chabanovych, 2021). Thematic analysis and the use of SPSS are the two methods that are available for the evaluation of the data. The first method is the one which includes making different themes and analysing the collected data based on it (Trullàs et al, 2022). On the other side, another method SPSS is the one which focuses on applying the various statistical functions like descriptive, inferential and others (Al-Ababneh, 2020). For assessing the data collected for evaluating the impact of simulation-based training methods on the learning capability of the medical student, compliance with the thematic analysis is implemented. The rationale for selecting the current analysis technique is that with the help of this technique, every question is converted into different themes and then the collected data is arranged and analysed. The thematic analysis is assistive to the researcher as they will be able to create different types of themes and accordingly, the tables and charts will be prepared. Thus, it will be assistive to examine and evaluate the data so that the overall working can be improved. When the thematic analysis is used then it will help assess and attain the objectives of the research well. In case the research does not follow the thematic analysis then it might be possible that there is not a structured evaluation and examination of the data and the objectives might not be accomplished well.
While working on the thesis there is certain restrictions or limitations which the scholar faces while working on the study. The most common limitation is related to the selection of the sample. It is very difficult for the researcher to decide on the correct type of sample so that a wide range of data can be collected and when a sample has characteristics of every participant then the findings can be generalised (Ahmed and Ishtiaq, 2021). So to overcome this limitation, the scholar has made use of the random sampling method and with the help of this, the limitation of the sample selection can be overcome. In addition to this, another limitation witnessed by the scholar was related to the collection of the data. Moreover, the reason that gathering secondary data about undergraduate medical students was difficult. The reason underlying the fact is that the studies based on medical students were very less so it was difficult to find studies (Ocaña-Fernández and Fuster-Guillén, 2021). However, to overcome this issue, the scholar has followed keyword searching. Thus, with the help of keyword searching scholars were in a better position to find the articles about the medical students and as a result the primary findings were supported better with good secondary sources. Moreover, another limitation faced by scholars was that the total time for the completion of the study was much less. This might have impacted the completion of the study and it may be possible that the study would not have been completed well. But the scholar by effectively prioritising all the activities according to the scheduled deadline was able to manage and accomplish the study on time. Even the researcher faced many of the limitations but then also they were in a better position to fulfil the objectives of the study.
Ethical consideration includes some principles and a guiding code of practice which the researcher has to comply with while working on the study. These are the principles which guide the researcher in how they have to plan and conduct the study so that the study can be accomplished better (Kiani et al, 2022). The most important ethical principle that scholars have followed while working on the study based on assessing the impact of the simulation-based training method is the informed voluntary consent from participants. While conducting the primary study the most essential ethical principle to be followed is taking voluntary participation from the respondent. The scholar cannot force any person to participate in the study and respondents must take part in the study on their wish only (Singh, 2022). Thus, for this, the written informed consent is signed by the participant which outlines that the respondent is participating by their wish and no compulsion is imposed by the researcher. Another ethical principle followed while working on analysing the effects of simulation-based training on the learning of undergraduate medical students is the effective maintenance of confidentiality. It is required that in the primary data collection, the identity of the respondent is kept confidential so that their identity is not revealed. Hence, this is another guiding principle that the scholar has to follow for managing and maintaining ethical working while accomplishing the objectives of the study.
To make the study accomplished all the work must be done reliably and validly. To run the study effectively all the elements which improve the reliability and validity must be followed by the scholar so that overall objectives are accomplished well. For the maintenance of the reliability in the current study based on assessing the effects of simulation-based training on undergraduate medical students’ learning, the scholar has undertaken all the articles published in 2020 or after that only. No data which is published before 2020 has been included in the study. This is done by the researcher because the too-old information does not provide accurate and reliable information (Zhou, Li and Sun, 2022). Thus, all the latest information has been used in the study to support the primary findings that the scholar has gathered from 30 respondents. So to support the views of primary respondents, the articles and other scholarly material published after 2020 are only considered. Moreover, to maintain the validity of the study, the websites which are protected by copyright, trademark or any other intellectual property right are only selected. This copyright ensures that all the information taken is from authentic sources and that the study is also providing reliable and valid information only.
3.11 Conclusion
Lastly, it is inferred that selecting the most suitable methodology according to the research topic is very necessary. This is because of the reason that when the correct type of methods are selected then the study is accomplished in a much better manner. The above chapter outlined that following the qualitative methodology is assistive in managing the study well and deeply researching the topic. It also explained that the sample of 30 students would be appropriate as it would provide better results and the findings could be generalised to all the medical students present. Lastly ethical considerations like voluntary participation, informed consent and others will help complete the research successfully.

Some other respondents stated that another negative impact created is that it is only applicable to practical processes and concepts. Moreover, some of them also asserted that it takes a lot of time to learn through this method. In support of this Higgins, Madan and Patel (2021) contemplated that following the simulation-based training method also creates some of the negative effects as well. It is due to the reason that every student is different and their calibre to learn is also different. It might be possible that with the help of simulation-based training, all the students learn effectively. Thus, the difference in the perception and the learning capability affects the working of the student and they are not capable of learning well.
From the findings, it is analysed that the majority of respondents are aware of the concept of simulation-based training. According to the views of Bienstock and Heuer (2022), currently number of students and professionals are aware of the concept of simulation-based training as several medical colleges use it to provide real-world experience and practical knowledge to their students. The simulation-based training enhances the skills, and knowledge retention of the students, hence, improving their performance proficiently. For instance, simulation-based training methods are applied by the Brighton & Sussex Medical School to enhance the medical learning of its students and get a competitive advantage in the educational sector.
Apart from this, from the responses, it is articulated that several colleges undertake as well as implement simulation-based training methods. Based on the opinion of Archana et al, (2021) medical colleges implement the SBT to provide hands-on experience to their students to enhance their ability and competency to work in real-world situations. For instance, Brighton & Sussex Medical School use simulation-based training including VR simulation and mannequins to acquaint learners with knowledge and enhance their clinical performances. In addition, the use of the training method by the college leads to enhanced confidence among the learners as they know how to deal with real situations when emergencies arise. It also reduces chances of error among the student while actual medical practising. It also helps the students from learn their mistakes and effectively deal with emergencies.

On the other hand, via using the role-play method the medical school help the students to learn skills that are important for medical practice such as communication, teamwork and so more. The application of different methods of simulation training by the college enables the undergraduate medical students to enhance their working competency and ability to work in any kind of situation and challenge.
Furthermore, referring to the findings it is picked out that the majority of the students agree that a positive impact is built on students learning when simulation-based training methods are used. This kind of training makes learning more interesting for the students as a result motivates and encourages them to learn the concepts with concentration and boosts knowledge significantly. When students get real-world experience it leads to creates a positive impact on student learning (Rohm, Stefl and Ward, 2021). There are various positive influences of the simulation training such as furnishing real and practical knowledge enhancing decision-making, productivity and increasing the engagement of students. However, from the findings, it is concluded that providing real and practical knowledge is the most significant positive influence that is built by using simulation training. Referring to this, according to (Marougkas et al, 2023), the different methods of training enable the students to get practical knowledge such as how to use the theoretical concept in the practical world, the way of conducting surgeries in different cases, proving CPR and so more. This leads to improve the practical knowledge of the undergraduate medical students as well as makes them confident in performing their role without getting anxious in any kind of scenario.
Inversely, via the findings of the survey it is evaluated that there are some negative effects built when colleges comply with the simulation-based training. Ricci et al, (2022) explained that each student doesn't need to learn from the simulation training methods in a proficient manner as each student has a different style of learning and acquiring knowledge.
Additionally, the findings identified that the major drawback of the simulation training is its lack of suitability for every student. According to the views of Chernikova et al, (2020), each student has different learning needs as some learn best via theoretical concepts while others from hands-on experience. In addition, some students due to psychological influence feel anxious, stressed and depressed while learning in a simulated environment as a result it works as a barrier to effective and productive learning of the student. When the students are not in a good mental and psychological state they it unable to learn the concept, acquire knowledge and gain practical experience in a significant manner.
Thus, in a new learning environment, the use of different simulation-based training methods is helpful for medical schools to provide better learning, knowledge and experience as well as possess the ability of communication, teamwork and decision-making to enhance the clinical performance of the students.
5.1 Conclusion
At last, the thesis inferred that simulation-based training is a type of practice which assists in leveraging the use of the latest technologies to provide effective training to others. Within the field of medical studies, compliance with simulation-based training is very necessary and essential to be implemented into practice. When effective training is provided to undergraduate medical students, then it will promote working efficiency and consequently, they will learn better. The study highlighted that clearly defining the aim is very necessary as it provides the direction for the whole study. So the aim decided for the current study was effective and very clear and it provided a better direction for accomplishing the study well. Further, the LR section of the thesis stated that for educating undergraduate medical students simulation-based training methods must be used and followed. In case it will not be utilised well then it will be affecting the overall learning and development of the undergraduate medical student. Hence, it is important for medical colleges they comply with the effective types of simulation-based training methods so that the overall working and learning capabilities are developed well. It is necessary as when the effective type of the simulation-based training methods will be utilised well then it will help them in improving the overall working well. With the help of the application of different types of simulation methods like AR, VR, role-play, gamified simulation and many others are used by the college to provide effective training to undergraduate medical students. It is necessary because when these methods of training are followed then it will improve the overall efficiency and ultimately the learning will be done well. The study also highlighted that there are many different types of the benefits of using the simulation-based training methods. It includes providing real and practical knowledge relating to complex medical and surgical procedures along with increasing decision-making, engagement of students and many other different types of skills and knowledge. The findings and discussion also emphasised the fact that there are some negative effects created on the learning of students because of simulation. It included the fact that differences in the capability of students affect the learning process. Also, the negative effects include that it is more time-consuming as it is a lengthy process and also is efficient in practical learning only and not theoretical aspects.
5.2 Recommendations
The above discussion highlighted the fact that there is a high requirement of complying with the simulation-based training methods and other related techniques as well. So medical colleges must follow the latest training methods so that better education can be imparted. The undergraduate medical student is the future of the healthcare industry as after studies they will be practising as healthcare professionals. Thus, it is necessary that they effectively assist medical students to learn better. Some of the recommendations for improving the application of simulation-based training methods while teaching undergraduate medical students are as follows-
