Reflection

Reflection is expounded as that piece of academic writing which emphasises analysing one's own strengths and weaknesses. In order to write a reflection, I will use Gibb’s model; this is considered as one of the most effective reflective models, comprising six stages, and those are description, feelings, analysis, evaluation, conclusion and action plan (Galli and New, 2022). There is no doubt in stating that I have received multiple opportunities in this academic year, and this supported me in gaining personal and professional development to greater extent. The learning and knowledge from my degree enable me to gain a wider understanding regarding different components.

What I want to get out of this degree

My degree Childhood and Youth Studies supported me in developing in-depth insights regarding the practices undertaken while teaching in early-year settings. I want to learn varied things from my degree; for instance- the group project supports in learning about the ways in which collaboration can be implemented. Furthermore, I have gained the understanding related to different factors that impacts teaching capabilities. Moreover, I want to develop extensive knowledge and expertise regarding different teaching-related topic such as importance of play-based learning and promoting holistic development of children (Fleer, 2021). This results in contributing in my personal development. I have realised that my degree enabled me to gain varied academic and professional skills such as- time management, team management, communication, decision-making, critical analysis and so on. I want to grow in my career and my aim is to lead varied teams within the organisation. I want to learn all of these elements from my degree, I am focusing of gaining practical knowledge along with theoretical knowledge and therefore, I am going to assure effectual focus on this area.

Thus, I can say that through this degree I have become able to understand the differences exist between theoretical and practical scenario. During this session, I have participated in different types of group and individual activities. This led to support me in gaining varied skills which are important for joining educational setting. Further, I will focus on undertaking in-depth analysis of each factor that has the potential to impact teaching practices.

What I have learnt at this point

I have learned varied things till this point, specific emphasis has been made on gaining theoretical as well as practical knowledge. I got to know about the importance of team management within educational setting and how important it is for educator to encourage and motivate children. During group project I have been given opportunity to lead the team members and, in this experience, I learned important things. At initial stage I was not able to develop effectual connection with group members. I allocated them task as per my own preference, this resulted in creating demotivation in them which ultimately impacted outcomes in drastic manner. However, after being in conversation with group members I have realised that I need to consider their requirements and I have done the same. Afterwards, based on the preference of each member I allocated task to them and this resulted in develop significant interaction among all of us. Hence, I can say that I learned about the ways in which team management should be done. Furthermore, I have developed leadership qualities in me.

Moreover, I gained communication skill as I have taken part in different group debates. Earlier I used to have lack of confidence and this impacted my self-esteem. However, after taking part in group debates my self-confidence has been enhanced to greater note and this lead to create effectual support for me. I am able to keep my points and opinions in front of everyone, I have research varied articles and websites for completing my projects. I developed insights related to academic integrity and research skills. Hence, I can say that I got the opportunity to enhance my practical as well as theoretical knowledge to greater extent. I will use this learning in future so that I can become able to gain personal and professional development. 

Where do I see myself in future

In future I see myself in the role of educator in childhood setting, I will focus on empowering children via using holistic approach of development. My core motive would be enhancing children growth along with ensuring learning opportunities to them. Early year educator has the potential to motivate or demotivate children (Hayes, O'Toole and Halpenny, 2022). Therefore, it is important to adopt fair practices that complies with encouraging and motivating each child. I will use my learning at workplace and this supports me in taking appropriate and significant actions which are essential for becoming an educator. I believe that I am uniquely positioned for this career path and I have effective Emotional intelligence capabilities and this supports me in understanding the issues and requirements of children and their parents.

However, there are certain areas of weaknesses which I need to focus out; I want to develop problem solving skill as I am unable to solve the issues. Furthermore, I get stressed out in certain situation which shows that I am lacking in resilience capabilities. Thus, I will ensure focus on these weaknesses so I can enhance my abilities. For enhancing problem solving skills, my core focus would be on evaluating different alternatives and by analysing the root cause of issue I will solve the problem. In this manner, I would be able to solve complex problems at the workplace within motivating children. Moreover, I am going to practice mindfulness as this will lead to enhance my resilience capabilities. My core focus would be on prioritising positive thoughts and looking for solution in each situation rather than getting stressed out. This will support me in facing crucial situation and further improves my self-esteem and confidence. Thus, I will focus on my weaknesses and accordingly, change into in strengths so I can achieve my career goal and this further supports in performing my job role in effectual manner.
