Career Research

The graduate-level career path that is of my interest is the project manager in the chosen industry which is construction. Project manager handles the whole process of project from start to finish by planning, organisation, monitoring, budgeting and controlling (Ge et al, 2023, p. 49). Here I will need to ensure that the work is going as per the targets and focus on the smooth functioning of the tasks through the allocation of the resources in better way.

The roles and responsibilities of the project manager includes the planning for the project, budget, tasks, resources, etc. before the start of the work. This also works for the risk management and assess the uncertainties and returns involve in it. I will be monitoring the progress and work on the quality assurance of the ongoing work. I will also need to play the role in communicating with the stakeholders and responsible for the closure of the project.

In my selected industry which is construction, the companies promote the equality, diversity and inclusion by formulating the policies that encourage this practice. Based on the Cognitive Diversity Hypothesis theory, the diversity leads to the new and innovative ideas that can help the organisation to work on the issues in better way. As, this role is challenging I need to have proper scheduling and planning for managing the work-life balance in the future. This role provide the personal and professional growth by improving the leadership and management skills.

My degree program which is project management relates to my career choice of being a project manager in the future. This program equips with the knowledge and skills that are necessary for the performance of the desired role in the future (Ribeiro et al, 2021, p. 803). I will gain knowledge on the risk management, problem solving, and decision making and planning. This sets base for the role in the future and will make me career ready for the job through the practical assignments, activities and learning. This makes the degree a fit for my job and will lead to the development of the professional capabilities and information in me.

Data analysis: due to the increased use of technology, the role of project manager demands high knowledge in digital skills and technology. Data analytics is one of the digital skill that helps in the interpretation of the data and evaluating it (Holzmann et al, 2022, p. 438). I found that I am good at the interpretation and evaluation as I have a good numerical knowledge. However, I found that I faces difficulty in the understanding and usage of the data analysis tool and application. There are various tools such as Wrike, Clickupp, Smartsheet, etc. There is need to have knowledge on the same and will be gained through the online courses on this and develop the basics by reading the books on this. This will be effective in gaining the familiarity with this and also helps in in performing the job in better way in the future.
