Introduction -Reflective Commentary Portfolio

This module has provided me significant opportunities for developing communication skill. Throughput this module I have completed varied class activities and assignment that enabled to enhance my written and oral communication skill. From the literature it has been witnessed that communication skill refers to ability of conveying, sharing and presenting ideas. Ineffective communication skill creates consistent barriers in gaining personal and professional development and therefore, it is important to develop focus on this area (Hendriarto et al, 2021). At the starting of module I was struggling with communication skill and I was not able to present my thoughts in frequent manner and this often led to develop significant barrier for me. There was a group discussion organised in classroom and I prepared myself for presenting my views in the discussion. However, I was not able to reflect on my views and opinion. Here, I got to know that I don’t have effective communication skills and due to lack of confidence I am further not able to present my thoughts. During this tough time, my tutor has shown consistent support to me and I focused on my speaking skills; I have participated in group project where I have received opportunities related to leading the team.

During this group project I was able to enhance my speaking abilities; I have focused on communicating roles and responsibilities to team members while considering their opinion. An open discussion was promoted and I was able to present my thoughts in significant manner. At initial stage, I have allocated responsibilities to team members as per my preferences without considering their preferences. This led to impact the project outcomes and afterwards, I realised that it is important to undertake an open communication where all team members can present their thoughts. After organising open communication, I was able to know the preferences of team members and accordingly, I have allocated responsibilities to them. In this manner, I was able to solve their doubts and issues which led to ensure consequent support to them. Hence, I have used my communication skill for solving the concern of team members and this led to develop sense of belongingness in them.

Furthermore, I have completed different assignments and this led to support me in enhancing my writing skill. I focused on the feedback that was received from CW1 and accordingly, I started proofreading that further supported me in improving my writing skulls. I realised that communication skill is essential for student as it contributes in their personal as well as professional development. I will use this skill in future as well; specifically, while interacting with team members at workplace. I am going to present my thoughts in effective manner and consistent communication will be undertaken as this will support me in gaining the trust of team member. However, there are certain areas on-to which I need to specify focus and these are concerned with enhancing self-esteem. By improving own confidence, I can effectively present my thoughts and further I would be able to gain the attention of individuals. In this manner, I can enhance own personal and professional development. Hence, there is no doubt in stating that this module has provided me effective opportunities and I have become able to gain significant insights related to the importance of communication and further I have enhanced own communication skill as well.

Section 2- Locating and Evaluating Resources

It is important to locate and evaluate sources as this ensures that the sources are reliable and credible. By assessing the quality of arguments appropriate domains could be analysed. During this module I got to know that it is important to assess the quality and creditability of resources as this linked with efficacy of outcomes (Smith and Pearson, 2022). In case, quality sources have not been considered then, this significantly reduces the efficacy of outcomes and therefore, significant focus requires to be implied on this area (Gunarathne, Senaratne and Herath, 2021). I have focused on assessing the quality of resources for both academic and employment purpose and this supported me presenting quality work. For assessing the quality of resources, I have used different strategies and this supported me in presenting quality outcomes. I have used CASP tool for assessing the sources and checked their credibility and validity. I have set certain criteria such and inclusion and exclusion criteria and accordingly, I selected those sources that were lasts, comprised with authentic methodology and peer-reviewed.

This criterion enabled me to set certain aspects and I have followed them while approaching the sources. Furthermore, I have used critical analysis skill and this supported me in terms evaluating the positive and negative elements within sources and accordingly, I have selected those sources which were providing accurate information. In this manner, I was able to select quality sources which were peer-reviewed and accordingly, I have completed my assignments. Significant emphasis was made on analysing the strengths and weaknesses of each source and consequently, appropriate source selection was considered. Henceforth, there is no doubt in depicting that I have used effective strategies for assessing the sources and this further supported me in terms of presenting final findings while considering authentic information. Thus, I will use this learning in future while completing research projects and dissertation and accordingly, I would select authentic and credible sources.

I have used these resources in own academic work along with exploring career options. By selecting effective sources, I have enhanced own academic work and further I got opportunity for exploring career progression as well. The sources provided me information related to business, employment and management areas; I have gained significant insights which are essential for enhancing own knowledge. For example- I learned about team coordination, leadership and varied aspects that are associates with my career opportunities. By gaining the knowledge I have become able to develop myself in career progression (Wu et al, 2021). I am going to use this learning in future so that I can effectively perform my practices and I will change my theoretical instance into practical knowledge. Henceforth, I have learned the importance of using quality resources in academic field; not focusing on this context can lead to academic misconduct.

Referencing is an essential aspect within academic writing and therefore, quality resources are needed to be used. I can say that I have used quality resources by undertaking critical evaluation of the sources which led to enhance academic work and further I gained knowledge while reading content from these sources. As a result, this supported me in my career progression. Locating and evaluating sources proves to be highly essential in academic area and focusing on this area can support scholar to understand varied things that involves- setting criteria for selecting sources, assessing them, using quality information, cross-checking content, using peer-reviewed articles and referencing. These are the important elements which have been learned by me during this module and this is going to support me in future for gaining quality outcomes. While completing research projects and dissertation my core focus would be on selecting quality sources and this supports me in gaining high marks.

Section 3- Critical and Creative Thinking about graduate employment

During this module; I have got an opportunity with regards to reviewing job trends that aligning with my career aspirations. I want to develop my career in management field and while analysing current job trends I got to know that technological innovation is growing on faster note within management context. Individuals who are advanced in technology gets higher position within business world. Here, I got to know that digital skills are highly essential for my career progression. However, I need to focus on this area as I am still lacking in using digital technologies. Thus, by analysing latest job trends in the market I have got to know the areas on-to which own development is needed. I have got the opportunity in terms of enhancing my critical and creative thinking related to graduate employment. By assessing the job trends, I realised that certain components and concepts are essential in my career progression and I have effectively focused on these areas and this supported me in analysing the areas where I can focus.

I have further considered alternative career path and strategies for entering in the desired field. I assessed integration of AI in hospitality sector and this provided me an idea regarding the importance of AI in business field. AI is part of technological advancement and by evaluating their uses in different management context I have developed insights regarding the ways in which AI can be used in own career progression. In this manner, I was able to consider alternative career options while focusing on desired field. I have used my critical skills for undertaking own SWOT and accordingly, I have analysed own strengths and weaknesses related to career progression. I got to know that; I have effective communication, team management and critical analysis skill.

Communication skill will support me in undertaking discussion with team members at the workplace and further I would be able to guide them in different context (Korucu et al, 2022). I am going to focus on considering the needs and requirement of team members and accordingly, I will allocate them task. In this manner, effective interaction at the workplace can be developed while ensuring consistent support to team members. Further, I will focus on maintaining coordination among team members while motivating them. Critical analysis skill is important for taking decision and I am going to use this skill while undertaking decision related to technological advancement and solutions. This will support in me taking appropriate decisions which ensures wider benefit. For gaining progression in career; I need to have an effective understanding related to understanding current trends and complexities. These trends keep changing and therefore, I will focus on consistently evaluating trends; this helps me in taking appropriate actions while gaining significant learning that are essential for own career progression. Through this module I have learned that career planning is an important domain; this sets clear guidance regarding the steps which are essential to take in career (Aranda, Mena-Rodríguez and Rubio, 2022). Further, this supports in gaining significant insights regarding the skills and abilities that are important to enhance own personal and professional development.

I will further focus on areas of improvement that are crucial in order to progress in career and these aligns with enhancing digital and problem-solving skills. I will complete digital courses and this lead to enhance my understanding with regards to using technologies and digital platform. Furthermore, problem solving skill is crucial for taking significant actions while solving complexity. I will focus on analysing the root cause so that appropriate actions can be taken and problems could be solved. Thus, I will enhance these skills and this will support me in performing my job in effective manner.

Conclusion

Conclusively; I can say that this module has provided me significant opportunities related to enhancing own personal and professional development. I am going to use these learning in combating future academic and professional challenges. I will use these learning for gaining success in my career and further perform effective role at workplace. Hence, there is no doubt in stating that this module has provided me significant opportunities in terms of understanding the importance of using quality resources in academic and employment context. I will use quality resources in future and accordingly I will complete my research projects.
