Introduction

Sustainability Development Goals are the set of 169 targets and 17 goals which UK is aiming to attain at the end of 2030. Southall is the large suburban part of London which is having population of 78,253 people in the year of 2023 (Description of Southall, 2024). There is a continuous decrease in the number of industries in city which has resulted in high unemployment rate. Moreover, 41.4% of children within city have not received educational opportunities, which indicates the presence of long term poverty within Southall (Poverty issue in Southall, 2024). Students seeking help with writing assignments can analyze how the current situation in city prevents alignment with SDG goal1, SDG 3, SDG 8, SDG 11 and SDG 17. Due to high unemployment, malnutrition among the children and inappropriate educational opportunity, Southall will not be able to eradicate poverty, ensures healthy living, provides decent work or initiate global partnership. To overcome the issue, educational campaign will be arranged within Southall which help in providing educational opportunity to children leading to overall growth. Further, food packages will also be distributed in campaign to fulfil nutritional gap and avoiding the scope of health issue. The current project will depict my experience while initiating project and various challenges faced while establishing the campaign.

Reason for selecting problem

Poverty is the major issue which faced in UK as 1 out of every 5 people unable to fulfil their basic needs. It has been identified that total of 14.4 million people are living in poverty among which 6.2 million are children (Poverty issue in UK, 2023). Further, all the SDG goals are related to high education, adequate employment and overall economic growth of the country (Magano et al, 2020). However, without eradicating poverty it is not possible to attain the goal due to which I have selected this issue. Among all the other area, Southall is the most deprived and more prone to poverty which result into selecting Southall for the project (George, 2020). Moreover, I have identified that children are more vulnerable to poverty due to which I have decided to undertake actions for their overall benefit and growth. In addition to this, the entire SDG goal could be successfully attainted after eradicating poverty as it help in high employment opportunity, gaining decent work, enhancing economic position which eventually results in overall development of country. 

Reflection on project experience and skills

In the course of describing all the skills and competencies developed while initiating the project, Gibbs reflective model will be used. It is the most adequate model which focuses on the in-depth description of situation, feeling, evaluation & analysis, conclusion and action plan (Gibbs reflective model, 2024). While initiating the project, I have developed my leadership, communication and problem solving skills which help me in attaining the future goals and objectives successfully. While establishing the educational campaign, I need to arrange all the required food packages, stationary and other resources so that campaign could be established successfully. At that time, I was involved in developing an adequate action plan and allocating role and responsibilities to my team members based on their capabilities which contribute in the attainment of goal. This assists in developing my leadership skill which will aid in completing any group project in the future.

 Beside this, I have identified that people in Southall were not able to determine the crucial reason behind such campaign and not ready to involve in such program. At that time, I have understood the significance of effective communication which will help me in overcoming misunderstanding and support in attaining the goal successfully. I was involved in communicating the rationale related to the campaign and involved towards identifying their perception based on which further decision could be taken. Moreover, this project also helps me in developing problem solving skill which contributes towards overcoming all the uncertainties in the upcoming time. At the time of establishing educational campaign, I have faced various issues due to non-involvement of children, resistance from local people and lack of budget, however at that time I was involved in identifying the optimum solution for the issue which helps me in overcoming the obstacle. All these skills will help in managing the entire task effectively in future while overcoming all the uncertainties.

Challenges in completing project

While initiating the project, I have faced various challenges that include ineffective time management skills, lack of budgeting knowledge, people’s trust. Due to the lack of time management skills, I was not able to secure all the required resources on timely basis which creates issue in establishing campaign successfully. Additionally, due to the lack of budgetary skills, I faced issue in determining the appropriate funds that should be allotted for each activity so that monetary resources are utilized optimally. To overcome the time management issue, I prepared a project timeline in which accurate time has been allotted to each activity.

According to this time plan, I have initiated activities which help me in completing project within the allotted time. For overcoming the budgeting issue, I have focused on evaluating budget of past campaigns which enhances my understanding regarding the overall fund requirement in each task. Moreover, various controlling measures were used which helps in allocating budget and supports in overcoming the issue prominently (Dacre et al, 2021). At the initial point, local people were not ready to send their children to campaign and does not able to understand the significance of campaign. To overcome this obstacle, I was involved in communicating all the benefits and significance of this session to people which develop their interest and eventually help me in overcoming the obstacle.

Tutor’s Feedback:

In week 4, I have written short paragraph on the condition of Southall people and its impact on overall economic position of the country. In this, I have covered information related to unemployment, educational issue and living crisis within Southall. However, I have not linked the current situation with SDG goal 1.1 which has reduced the overall quality of the project. Tutor’s feedback regarding integrating SGD goals 1.1 helps me in exploring broader view of the issue based on which I was able to identify the most appropriate solution. Moreover, by linking issue and problem with SGD goal 1.1, I was able to improve quality of the project which will help me in attaining higher grades in assignment.

Conclusion

By summing up the report, I have identified that poverty is the major issue which is faced by people within Southall. However this issue has created issue in successfully attaining SDG gaols 1, 3, 8, 11 and 17 at the end of 2030. To overcome the issue, educational campaign will be arranged and free food will be distributed to children which help in conquering issue of malnutrition. Moreover, I have identified that this project helps in enhancing my leadership, communication and problem solving skills which contribute toward overall academic growth. Along with this, lack of people interest and ineffective time and budgeting management skills creates issue in successfully attaining goal. Moreover, Tutor’s feedback regarding linking problem and solution with SGD goal 1.1 help me in providing more in-depth information.
